Counselor Connection Update

Confirm by May 1

Admissions Confirmation Date (May 1) is Quickly Approaching
Undergraduate students are required to register for and attend a New Student Conference, a two‐day orientation program, in order to enroll at Texas A&M University. Their family is encouraged to attend the conference as well to participate in programs designed for family members and learn more about what students will be experiencing as new Aggies. To fully accept our offer of admission and be eligible to register for classes, students MUST register for their New Student Conference (NSC) by the May 1st deadline.

NSC Registration is still open for Fall 2016. To view available dates and register ($100 non‐refundable registration fee), students should visit AIS at howdy.tamu.edu.

Please encourage students to register NOW to reserve their spot in the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 2020! .

Redesigned SAT

Redesigned SAT
The Office of Admissions is awaiting the release of the concordance table from College Board which will guide us on how scores will align between the former version and the redesigned version of the SAT. Students are anxiously awaiting news on what the new score for our automatic admits will be and as soon as we have that information we will post it on admissions.tamu.edu. More to come!

Coalition

The Coalition for Access, Affordability and Success
A committed group of 90+ public and private U.S. colleges and universities (the Coalition) has come together to develop tools to improve access to college, especially for low‐income and first generation students, and to better support all students in the admissions process. Texas A&M is proud to be a member of this exciting new venture. Along with the ability for students to set up a profile and submit items to their personal “locker,” Texas A&M will begin offering students the chance to apply for admission using the Coalition Platform beginning August 1st. We are asking students to use only one application source: The Coalition Application or ApplyTexas. Submitting one over the other does not impact a student’s admission decision. Please visit coalitionforcollegeaccess.org for more information. We will be providing more information through admissions.tamu.edu as well as at our Texas Together presentations this fall.

Admission to Engineering for Fall 2017
All applicants who select Engineering as their first choice major, will be holistically reviewed for placement into the College of Engineering. The holistic review process will include applicants who qualify for automatic admission to the university. Applicants who meet automatic admission standards, either by top 10% or academic admission, will be admitted to the university once their admission file is complete; however, placement into the College of Engineering may take place much later in the admission cycle. Engineering applicants whose admission file is complete, including application and required supporting documents, by October 15 will be guaranteed an admission decision in early December. The decisions will include: ADMIT to College of Engineering, DEFER to mid‐ January decision timeline, DENY admission to College of Engineering. Applicants who complete after October 15 and before the December 1 deadline will receive an admission decision by mid‐January. The Oct 15 early decision deadline is for Engineering applicants only. Students admitted to the university but denied admission to the College of Engineering will be given the opportunity to change majors.
