Report Income From Two Years Prior |
Beginning with this application cycle, students will report income information from the tax year two years prior to the academic year. So, on the 2017-2018 FAFSA, income information from the 2015 tax year should be reported. Since most students and/or parents will have already filed 2015 taxes, using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to automatically import tax information into the FAFSA should be available to most applicants. Using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool makes completing the FAFSA much easier and ensures accuracy of the information reported. There is less likelihood of the student being asked to submit additional documentation to the financial aid office when IRS Data Retrieval Tool is used. Texas A&M University strongly encourages students to use this tool when completing the FAFSA.
Easy to follow instructions on using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool can be found at blog.ed.gov/2016/02/easy-to-transfer-taxes-into-fafsa. |
