Submit the Correct Documentation….Only When Requested
As always, students should not submit any documentation to the financial aid office unless it has been specifically requested. Submitting unrequested documentation can cause delays in awarding and processing financial aid. Texas A&M University informs students of documentation needed through the Financial Aid Portal at howdy.tamu.edu (My Finances tab) and through a paper letter mailed to the student’s permanent address.

Some students’ FAFSAs may be selected by the U.S. Department of Education for a process called verification. If a FAFSA is selected for verification, the financial aid office will request certain documentation from the student to confirm the information reported on the FAFSA. The student should only submit the specific documentation requested. Some students may be asked to submit an IRS Tax Transcript for themselves or their parent(s). This document must be requested from the IRS. The student should NOT submit a copy of the tax return they retained after submitting taxes to the IRS. Examples of an acceptable IRS Tax Transcript and an unacceptable tax return are below.
