Texas A&M University Counselor Connection Update
Counselor Connection - behind the scenes at Texas A&M University

#BTHOharvey
Texas A&M University continues to assist students, families and school districts impacted by Hurricane Harvey - our Regional Prospective Student Center staff and our Aggieland staff are available when you need us. Please encourage students to complete an application as a first step. Once their application is received, they may submit a request for assistance using the ‘Contact Us/Ask a Question’ feature in our Applicant Information System via the Howdy portal at howdy.tamu.edu. Students will need to provide a detailed explanation of the impact of Hurricane Harvey on them and their family and/or a letter of support from a high school counselor or school official. We will respond to their request with clear instructions as to their next steps. We will continue to be as flexible as possible during this difficult time. Thank you for partnering with us as we plan for the future education of your students. If there are additional questions, we can be reached at admissions@tamu.edu or at (979) 845-1060.

We Build Our World
Texas A&M University College of Engineering
Like last year, your students who apply to the College of Engineering will be holistically reviewed for a seat in General Engineering. This includes the students who qualify for top 10% and automatic academic admission. The holistic review includes a student’s academic and personal achievements, so filling out the application completely is very important. Also, the Early Action Deadline of Sunday, October 15 for the College of Engineering is just around the corner. Please assure your students that completing their admission file between October 15 and December 1, does not make them any less competitive for admission to engineering. The early action deadline only guarantees a student will hear from us by mid-December. We will provide all students who complete their admission file by December 1 a decision by early to mid-January.

NEW
New Fee Waiver Process
As reported in our Counselor Updates, since we opened our application on July 1, your students have been able to self-report if they qualify for a fee waiver. Both the ApplyTexas and Coalition applications allow students to select the criteria that make them fee waiver eligible. We hope this will simplify the process for you, since we will no longer require the fee waiver documentation as part of the initial process. If a student is selected for verification, there is the possibility that documentation may be required.
